FIRE ALARMS

DESIGN

M & G Fire Protection (Essex) Ltd offer a unique design service
covering all of your fire alarm requirements.

Our engineers have a wealth of experience in the design of fire
alarm systems and have been fully trained on the latest standards
by a recognised governing body.

To help us chose the right equipment and system for your needs we:

• Undertake site visits
• Carry out accompanied site visits
• Discuss local legislation requirements with fire officers and local authorities
• Arrange for samples
• Complete design certificates
• Arrange and carry out full commissioning of the system
• Offer a full quotation package

Keeping up with current legislation is a headache for many specifiers
and clients: did you know that the 1988 version of BS5839
Part – 1 has been withdrawn and replaced by the 2002 version?

This new code of practice provides the recommendations which,
if followed, would ensure adherence to current good practice.
Variations are allowed, but should be justified with sound
engineering principles. The new code has substantial new sections
on monitoring and integrity, choice of detector type, false alarms and
grade of cables.

System design should therefore be carried out by a competent
person to ensure that the requirements of BS 5839
Part – 1 – 2002 are met. We can design you a system that will
conform to all current legislation.

INSTALLATION

For a fire alarm system to work correctly, it is important
that the installation is carried out by competent engineers.

Our engineers have the capabilities to install from a small basic
conventional system through to large network system in all types
of business.

At each stage of the installation care is taken to keep to the
original design plan and meet the requirements of BS5839-1:2002.

As a Company we will only install open protocol systems. With
modern analogue addressable systems, there is a choice between
open and closed protocol. The benefit of an open protocol system
is that manufacturers will openly disclose the protocol of the system,
which means that other Companies can manufacture products that
will be compatible and means that, should our client decide that we
are not providing the very best of service, they are free to change
supplier; unlike some of our competitors who use closed protocol
equipment where you will be obliged to the service provider because no
one else can maintain or add to the system. As we are not tied to one
supplier we are able to offer impartial advice and offer the right system
for your requirements and budget.

At the end of the installation the system will be commissioned and
a formal handover to the client will take place including the presentation
of all relevant certificates and instructions on the use of the panel.

MAINTENANCE

All fire alarm systems should be serviced in accordance
with BS5839-1:2002 at least every 6 months, or more often
if the system doesn’t comply with the current version of the
standard or where risk assessment determines that a more
frequent service would be more appropriate.

Regular maintenance is important to ensure that your investment
will continue to function correctly and is still fit for purpose.
It will also identify any variations from the standard that may arise
from changes that may be made to building layouts or uses.
Regular maintenance visits from one of our engineers also
means our clients have the opportunity to refresh their
knowledge of the panel functions if they so wish.
